Artist Statement

Printmaking teaches patience, acceptance, and trust in the process.

Hand-carved linoleum prints allow me to simplify both landscapes and figurative subjects into rhythm, contrast, and texture. Working in black and white helps me focus on the emotional structure of an image rather than its literal details. Through carving, I reduce forms into patterns of light, movement, and shape that reflect both the quiet complexity of the natural world and the subtle emotional presence of people, animals, and everyday objects.

My work is inspired by everyday observations — rural landscapes, changing weather, human connection, and small moments of stillness. Whether depicting a figure, an animal, or an outdoor scene, I am drawn to the tension between vulnerability and protection, movement and pause.

I enjoy the physical process of printmaking — carving into the block, allowing marks to emerge through subtraction, and balancing bold areas of black with delicate linework. The final image develops slowly through this process of removal and refinement. I know a piece is finished when the composition feels balanced and the carved marks create a sense of movement and atmosphere without overwhelming the subject.

Printed on Kitakata paper, my work combines traditional relief printmaking techniques with a contemporary, graphic approach to pattern and composition.
